5 benefits of journaling

the topic of today is journaling! journaling has been around for ages and in a lot of different forms: medical journals, academic journals, and more! however, we want to talk about the benefits of journaling for yourself. we know journaling isn't for everyone, but it still has a positive effect on your mental health. It is also said to be very good for your brain as it boosts memory and comprehension along with increasing working memory capacity. here are some benefits of journaling:

reduces stress & anxiety.

journaling lets you work through those anxious feelings and non-stop thoughts. getting your thoughts down on paper doesn't make them seem as large as our heads make them. writing it down lets you see your stresses from a different angle.

helps you learn from the past.

it has been shown in a study done by harvard business school learning from experience is more effective when combined with reflection. “reflecting on what has been learned makes the experience more productive,” the study says. when you have your past experiences written down and then you begin to go through something similar you can study how you dealt with it previously and decide how you're going to deal with it now.

helps you sleep better.

say goodbye to nights of your brain running through a never-ending loop. when writing down your thoughts this helps "empty" your brain in a sense and lets you rest. so, grab your journal before you hit the sheets and let it all out. also, make sure to keep your bedtime entries positive as negative thoughts will have the opposite effect.

improves your mood.

it's never a good idea to keep your feelings bottled up inside. writing down your fears, sadness or any emotion you may be feeling allows you to release those emotions instead of keeping them within. also, allows you to get out the thoughts that seem to take over your mind and can't stop thinking about while allowing you to pinpoint the triggers and handle them correctly.

improves your sense of gratitude

we suggest starting each journal entry by listing 5 things you are grateful for. " I am grateful for __________" always list 5 even if you can't think of something look around you and find something. gratitude = abundance.
